GREENTRAVELLER X Animals Asia Connecting Travellers with Ethical Elephant Tourism
At GREENTRAVELLER, we believe travel should create positive experiences for both people and nature. For years, we have valued Ethical Elephant Tourism (EET) and connected travellers with responsible elephant experiences at Yok Don National Park.
Our commitment became even stronger after participating in the “Happy Elephant Footprints” event initiated by Animals Asia (AAF) in Lien Son, Lak. The experience encouraged us to officially support the promotion of Ethical Elephant Tourism in Lak Lake and help more travellers understand why responsible choices matter.
It is important to clarify that the EET program is developed and implemented directly by Animals Asia (AAF), in partnership with Yok Don National Park and the Lak Lake Historical, Cultural & Environmental Forest Management Centre.
GREENTRAVELLER’s role is to act as a bridge — connecting travellers and nature lovers with this meaningful initiative and helping them experience elephants in a way that respects their natural behavior and freedom.
What Is Ethical Elephant Tourism?
Ethical Elephant Tourism is a responsible tourism model that allows visitors to observe elephants in a natural environment without riding, chaining, or forcing them to interact with people.
Instead of asking elephants to perform for visitors, travellers are encouraged to simply observe and appreciate them from a safe and respectful distance.
The focus is on:
- No elephant riding
- No chaining
- No forced interaction
- Respect for natural elephant behavior
- Responsible and sustainable tourism
- Supporting local communities and elephant owners
The goal is simple: let elephants live as elephants.

Why Ethical Elephant Tourism Matters at Lak Lake
Lak Lake is one of Đắk Lắk’s most beautiful cultural and natural destinations. It is also home to elephants that have traditionally been involved in elephant-riding tourism.
Promoting Ethical Elephant Tourism at Lak Lake provides an opportunity to support a different future — one where elephants can gradually move away from traditional riding activities. In contrast, elephant owners, mahouts, and local communities can develop more sustainable livelihoods.
For GREENTRAVELLER, this reflects our philosophy:
Live Green | Live Slow | Love Nature.
We believe tourism should not come at the expense of another living being’s freedom. A meaningful journey can be created through observation, respect, and connection with nature rather than entertainment involving animals.

What Can You Experience?
An Ethical Elephant Tourism experience at Lak Lake offers travellers the opportunity to observe elephants in a more natural setting.
Observe Elephants in Their Natural Environment
Visitors can watch elephants as they forage, walk, bathe, and move through the forest while maintaining a safe distance.
There is no riding and no forced interaction. The experience is about observing elephants rather than controlling them.
Support Local Communities
Ethical tourism can provide alternative income opportunities for mahouts, elephant owners, and local communities.
By choosing responsible experiences, travellers can help create demand for tourism models that place animal welfare and long-term community benefits at the centre.
Experience Slow and Meaningful Travel
Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, EET encourages travellers to slow down and appreciate the forest, the elephants, and the surrounding environment.
It is an opportunity to reconnect with nature through quiet observation and responsible travel.
Our Commitment
GREENTRAVELLER is proud to support the development and promotion of Ethical Elephant Tourism in Đắk Lắk.
We believe that tourism can be a force for positive change when travellers, local communities, tourism businesses, and conservation organisations work together.
Our goal is to help more visitors discover that elephants do not need to perform, carry tourists, or interact with people to make a journey memorable.
They simply need the freedom to be elephants.
World Elephant Day – August 12
On World Elephant Day, we hope that every traveller visiting Đắk Lắk will have the opportunity to learn about elephants, understand the challenges they face, and make tourism choices that contribute to their well-being and freedom.
Let elephants be elephants — free to roam, forage, bathe, and live in the forest.
